The Ballad of One Hand Clapton

The Ballad of One Hand Clapton

Sittin’ alone on a Sunday night

Nothin’ to watch on the TV

Nothin’ but hits on the radio

So I called up my very best friend, Joe

I said, “hey Joe”

He said, “hey”

I said, “what’s doin’ ?”

He said, “nothin’ – what’s doin’ with you?”

I said, “thinkin’ about doin’ somethin’….”

He said, “how ’bout we go down to the roadhouse – I hear old One Hand’s playin’ all night”

I said, “sounds good” and that’s what we did

Now this is the ballad of One Hand Clapton – that’s right

You see old One Hand – before he was one handed

Fell asleep drunk one night on the railroad tracks

And lost his pickin’ arm as a result

Now when he plays, he just frets the chords

To the most beautiful music you never heard –

The sound of One Hand Clapton

His chords are placed with knowing precision and when he soloes

The notes come so fast, his one hand is a blur

Actually, it does make a sound

It’s the soft rhythmic taping of the hard pads of his fingers

Keeping time to the most beautiful music you never heard

we’d just sit there all night – listening to the sound of One Hand Clapton
